headstartSTEM is a non-profit group that aims to tackle the disparities in STEM especially faced by women and minorities through the use of various equally accessible resources and opportunities for free or at a low cost to educate, empower, and inspire ALL students.

The co-founders found themselves with nothing to do after their own summer programs and internships had been cancelled due to Covid19. Wanting to still take advantage of this time to pursue their own interests in STEM, they researched and came across new remote opportunities. The founders were sharing these resources with close friends and then wanted to share with this a larger audience, the public. And thus, headstartSTEM was created. What started from simply a database of STEM opportunities grew to research on career paths, interviews with professionals, blogs, and even more exciting platforms. As high school students start to think about college and further pursuing their STEM aspirations as adults in the near future, broadening and increasing exposure to possible careers to further confirm their interests in a specific aspect, consider new areas of STEM to delve into, or discover supplementary information would serve to be highly advantageous. As someone who is actively applying to colleges and doing research to roughly sketch out her plans post-high school, Giwoo strongly felt the need for such a program, especially in the current unprecedented times that limit opportunities and resources for students.

Web Development is currently accepting team members only: International Outreach, International Research, and Video Production are currently accepting applications for both directors and team members: National Outreach, National Research, and Writing will soon be accepting applications for directors and team members. 2. Or, you can submit an article pitch to be potentially added to our blog. 3. You can also enter one of our many contest we will be hosting such as short essay contests! And, you can join our community on Slack to have priority access to special, limited opportunities within headstartSTEM or other youth-led initiatives!
